Loki returned Thor’s attempt with a look of strained patience. He was touched to know she mourned though, and missed him, but comforted as well that she could still function as the strong and brave woman that he had admired. She had always stood out to him as singular among the fairer sex, though how much of that was biased sentiment he could not say.
“I expect she would at that. But you can make all the decrees you like, I don’t think the people of Asgard would be very pleased to see me back at court. Odin in particular. He very well might snatch back your crown,” Loki warned, half in jest and half in seriousness.
Thor laughed then. It may have been humourless and perhaps a little nervous if he was honest, but he tried to display only the pride and self-confidence he was usually so associated with.
“Let him try,” he bluffed, but was unable to keep up his smile. Face turning serious again, he took a tentative step closer to Loki, his hand reaching out to touch… he wasn’t really sure, his face? His shoulder? Whatever the intention of that hand, it didn’t reach its destination, his worry for the fragility of their relationship causing him to hesitate, hand frozen in mid-air.
“I wish I had a solution to it all,” he admitted quietly, as he frowned, pained and frustrated by his own limitations, “All I truly know is how much I miss you, brother.”
